“It’s so good, but there’s no reason not to throw it” Ace Ace Woo-jin Ahn, the reason why he is greedy for new and old sweepers

Kiwoom Heroes An Woo-jin (24) expressed his desire for a sweeper, a new type of pitch.

Ahn Woo-jin started the match against SSG Landers of the ‘2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League’ held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on the 6th and recorded a loss with 6 hits (1 home run) and 10 strikeouts in 7 innings.

An Woo-jin, who is active with an average ERA of 1.23 with 2 wins and 2 losses in 7 games (44 innings) this season, does not seem to be following his luck. Since he has many games against first-time starters, he has received very little scoring support. In the 4 matches he conceded, he did not win a single game and lost only 2. However, An Woo-jin said, “It is still early in the season. As I went through the season, I gave up a lot of points, but there will be games that I won because I gave up a lot of points in the other line,” he said, saying he doesn’t care much. 토토사이트

Ahn Woo-jin, who recorded 97 pitches that day, used fastball (51 pitches) – slider (18 pitches) – curve (15 pitches) – changeup (11 pitches) – slub (2 pitches). In the pitching analysis table, slubs that were not usually thrown were recorded. A sweeper, whom Ahn Woo-jin has been practicing recently, was caught by the power analysis team. An Woo-jin, who said, “I think I threw it to Heredia about once,” said, “I grabbed the sweeper grip and threw it. But he was pinned to the ground,” he laughs.

An Woo-jin is already on the list of the best aces in the KBO League. Last season, he won two crowns as a pitcher (ERA, strikeouts), and this season is also running at the top in various indicators, such as second in earned run average, first in strikeouts (59), and first in innings. However, Ahn Woo-jin is not satisfied with the present and is looking at a higher place.

Eric Yokishi, who taught Ahn Woo-jin the sweeper grip, said, “Unlike the major leagues, there are many hitters who hit the ball in the KBO league. Sweepers with strong lateral movements can rather get caught in the bat, so in the KBO League, sweepers may not be as powerful as in the major leagues.” However, Ahn Woo-jin said, “It’s not wrong, but if you look at Pedi (NC), he is throwing a sweeper very effectively. It is a pitch that is producing such good results, but I see no reason not to throw it.”

Eric Peddy, who is the best sweeper in the KBO League, uses not only sweeper but also pitches that bend in various directions, such as two-seam, curve, and changeup. An Woo-jin said, “Peddy is a good sweeper and throws the ball in all directions, including a fastball, two-seam, and changeup. He thinks it’s good to have a variety of combinations like that.”

If Ahn Woo-jin, who has shown growth every season, can perfectly throw a new pitch, an overwhelming ace that has never been seen before may appear in the KBO league.
